From Jacksonville to Japan: Mastering Golden Curry at Home

There’s something incredibly comforting about a warm, hearty bowl of Japanese curry. It’s been a staple in our house for a while now—thanks to the reliable, classic flavor of S&B Golden Curry. Whether it’s a busy weeknight or a slow weekend, pulling out that familiar red box is a guaranteed win with the whole family.
A Kitchen Staple
I love how easy it is to customize. Tonight, I whipped up a batch using that trusty "Mild" mix, loaded it up with tender potatoes and shredded chicken, and served it over a bed of steaming white rice. It’s the kind of meal that just hits the spot—savory, slightly sweet, and perfectly thick. Even with the "No Meat Contained" label on the box, it serves as the perfect canvas for whatever protein or vegetables we have on hand.
Dreaming of the Real Deal
As much as we love our homemade version, it’s only fueled our excitement for the upcoming big move. With our Permanent Change of Station (PCS) to Yokosuka, Japan, just around the corner, I find myself thinking about the culinary adventure that lies ahead.
I’m counting down the days until I can trade my kitchen counter for a local shokudo or a specialized curry shop in Japan. I can’t wait to experience the authentic depth of flavor, the regional variations, and the true soul of Japanese curry in its birthplace.
Making it at home is great, but experiencing the real thing? That’s going to be the ultimate reward.
Stay tuned—I have a feeling our next curry update will be coming to you live from Japan!
